Seine is a pivotal character in the Insect Touch comic series. Serving as the team leader and intelligence analyst aboard the starship Cortez, Seine is responsible for overseeing critical decisions as the crew approaches the Klendathu system. His analytical mind and strategic thinking play a central role in the unfolding narrative, especially as the crew encounters the deadly Arachnid species on Klendathu.
History[]
Seine’s journey aboard the Federation starship Cortez began with their mission to explore the Klendathu system. As the ship approached the system, Seine was summoned to the bridge to oversee the operation. His first order of business was to activate the ship's listening systems, intending to pick up any form of communication or signal from the planet below. However, what greeted him was an unsettling silence. Despite the advanced technology at his disposal, there were no radio transmissions, no signals—nothing but an eerie void. This silence struck him as deeply unnatural, raising his suspicions about what lay ahead.
In response to this mystery, Seine made the strategic decision to keep the Cortez hidden within the asteroid field surrounding Klendathu. From this concealed position, he ordered the deployment of reconnaissance probes to orbit the planet and gather detailed data. Seine’s cautious approach was driven by the need to understand the planet's environment and potential threats before risking the ship and its crew. The absence of communication continued to weigh heavily on him, hinting at the presence of something dangerous and unknown on Klendathu.
As the mission progressed, the Cortez encountered its first crisis. An asteroid, concealed within the same field that had provided their cover, was on a collision course with the ship. To make matters worse, Bulfinch, the first pilot, was incapacitated at a critical moment, leaving the ship vulnerable. Seine immediately took charge, coordinating the crew's response with precision. He demonstrated his ability to remain calm under pressure, making quick decisions to avoid disaster. The ship narrowly avoided catastrophe, but the incident served as a stark reminder of the constant danger they faced.
Despite the risks, Seine knew they had to proceed with their mission. With the Cortez sustaining damage from the asteroid, he realized that their only option was to land on Klendathu. Although he was reluctant to take such a step without more information, the situation left him no choice. He ordered the deployment of Mobile Infantry soldiers, preparing to lead a ground mission on the planet’s surface. Seine understood that this would be a perilous undertaking, but his sense of duty compelled him to press forward.
Upon landing, Seine and his team quickly realized the gravity of the threat they were facing. The arachnid species they encountered were unlike anything they had prepared for—relentless, highly intelligent, and brutally efficient. As the ground mission unfolded, Seine fought to maintain control, directing his team’s actions in an attempt to counter the arachnid assault. The situation, however, rapidly spiraled out of control. The arachnids overwhelmed their defenses, and Seine witnessed his team being cut down one by one.
In a final, desperate act, Seine chose to sacrifice himself to protect the few remaining members of his team. Armed with an M-85 tac-nuke missile launcher, he confronted the arachnids head-on, knowing full well that it was a suicide mission. His goal was to buy time for his surviving crew members to retreat and regroup. In the midst of the chaos, Seine fired the nuke, the explosion devastating the arachnids and momentarily halting their advance.
Personality and Traints[]
Seine is characterized by his pragmatic and analytical nature, always striving to make informed decisions based on the data available to him. Despite his composed exterior, he is not immune to the stress and horror of combat, particularly when faced with the relentless and alien nature of the arachnids. His leadership is marked by a strong sense of responsibility for his team, ultimately leading him to make the ultimate sacrifice.
