What the hell kind of bug is that? | ![]() |
The Plasma Grenadier Bug represents a scaled-down iteration of the formidable Plasma Bug, possessing both close combat capabilities and the capacity for ranged attacks against adversaries. While somewhat sizable, it demonstrates a degree of agility, enabling swift movement on the battlefield.
History[]
During the Battle of Fort Casey, Plasma Grenadier Bugs played a crucial role in providing artillery support for the Queen Bug. Positioned strategically, these bugs safeguarded essential sectors of the asteroid, impeding the progress of the K-12 Team and defending the primary subterranean hive amidst the ongoing conflict. Furthermore, they contributed to delaying the player's advance during the pursuit of the Super Tank Bug.
Subsequently deployed aboard the John A. Warden, these bugs primarily assumed protective duties around the Queen Bug, while also engaging in combat operations as required.
In the context of the Second Battle of Mars, plasma bombardment targeted Nemesis Station from the planet's surface. However, it remains uncertain whether this assault originated from Plasma Grenadier Bugs or the larger Plasma Bugs capable of delivering ordnance into orbit.
Notes[]
- The design draws inspiration from various insect species, including the beetle, grub, mantis, and pill-bug.
- In its construction, the head is positioned beneath the body, while the Plasma discharger is situated atop.
- In the video game Starship Troopers: Invasion - "Mobile Infantry," Plasma Grenadiers engage in extensive combat encounters with the player, necessitating their defeat to progress through the respective levels.
- Given the canonical status of the game Starship Troopers: Invasion - "Mobile Infantry," it is improbable that characters such as Henry Varro, Ratzass, and Bugspray encountered the Plasma Grenadiers during their time aboard the John A. Warden.
- During the "Asteroid Surface" level, two Plasma Grenadier Bugs are initially observed guarding the Super Tank Bug. However, upon subsequent playthroughs, only Warrior Bugs are observed in this role. The reason for this discrepancy remains unknown.
- In Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars, Plasma Grenadier character models exhibit a size twice that of standard specimens, resembling Tanker Bugs, and serve the function of Plasma Bugs.
