The "John A. Warden type Starship" is a large class of starship utilized by the United Citizen Federation Fleet. The class served during the Second Bug War in great numbers.

Technology and Weapons Systems[]

This class of starship was designed as a combat oriented ship - measuring in at just under 800 meters in length. It featured the same engine layout as the Corvette Transport, sporting four large engine nacelles at the rear of the vessel. The construction of the class varied depending on its role, with ships like the John A. Warden sporting large troop deployment bays and arm-like struts - while other ships of the class like the Franklin had heavily armored compartments of unknown role.

The class was built to be incredibly durable - capable of flying into a planet with its hull armor capable of withstanding the intense heat and friction from atmospheric reentry, which suggests the presence of dense and high heat conductive alloys for its main armor. The ship is stable enough that upon crash-landing on Earth, a ship of the class could still remain intact with active systems and its weapons moderately undamaged. However, bug plasma is still powerful enough to destroy a vessel of the class in a single shot if the strike is direct.

The class's armament consisted of eight bow mounted dual direct energy batteries - capable of firing high output beams with great range, accuracy, and power per shot. Five were mounted dorsally in a superfiring structure, and three were mounted ventrally in a similar manner. Supporting this were a quartet of dorsally mounted dual energy batteries of the same type mounted midship. However, the ship class was noticeably vulnerable on the ship's underside due to thinner armor and a lack of appropriately placed weaponry.

Despite the class's large size and great mass, they were capable of a moderately impressive rate of acceleration, able to perform slingshot maneuvers and turn rather quickly. The ship mounted thrusters in varying placements to allow for quick turns and hard maneuvers.

Ships of the class tended to have the Federation Navy's silver and gray livery - though vessels of the Intelligence Branch were painted in black to dark gray paint schemes, unmarked and unnamed.

History[]

The John A. Warden type starships entered service during the Second Bug War. With the reforms in the Mobile Infantry removing the need for large hangar bays with numerous shuttle airlocks it enabled this class to have a larger focus on weaponry for its size. Troopers in Power Suits could launch from drop pods or by dropships.

During the Battle of Fort Casey the John A. Warden was ordered to the station for a top secret mission. Upon docking the John A. Warden deployed its Mobile Infantry squad to the station to support a squad from the Alesia.

Upon being ordered to enter the station by General Jenkins of Military Intelligence Captain Ibanez learned that she was being relieved of command and was escorted to the Alesia despite her protests.

General Jenkins along with his Marines took over the John A. Warden and moved their top secret equipment and objects into the large ship. Fort Casey at this point had effectively been abandoned and remaining M.I. forces retreated to the Alesia whilst the John A. Warden left going into deep space far away.

Onboard the Alesia the crew and troopers were notified that contact had been lost with the John. A. Warden and ordered to its last known co-ordinates.

Upon finding the John A. Warden it was clear the ship was adrift with no signs of life. The M.I. squads along with Captain Ibanez boarded the dead ship finding it without power and filled with corpses.

General Jenkins was found locked up in a hold seeming half crazed. A this point the John A. Warden's Energy weaponry turrets powered up and fired on the docked Alesia completely destroying it. It was discovered that a Queen Bug that Military intelligence had been experimenting on had gained control of the ship and spawned numerous Warrior Bugs and Plasma Grenadier Bugs.

The ship powered up and the M.I. troops had to fight off the Arachnids.

John A. Warden flew off eventually reaching the Sol System and heading directly for Earth. Onboard L-6 Satellite Base General Rico seeing the ship and noticing flashes from the bridge that were morse code realised the ship was under Arachnid control. The Earth defense fleet was called up and another John A. Warden type starship along with two Alesia type ships supported L-6 base firing on the John A. Warden. These ships however all took damage and failed to stop the hostile ship which pasted and crashed on the surface in Europe.

Onboard the remaining Mobile Infantry fought off the Arachids' planting bombs in the engine room that would destroy the ship. During this General Jenkins escaped his hiding place having regained his senses. several Intel Bugs were phsyically used by him to kill Warrior Bugs which were confused by their attackers also being Arachnids.

A Marauder team dropped on the ship managing to reach the survivors, but lossing all but one of its members General Rico in the process. The survivors escaped onboard Jenkin's shuttle still docked in the ship whilst the bombs were detonated completely detroying the John A. Warden.

A few years later a Fleet armada organized in the Sol System to launch a major offensive in the Arachnid Quarantine Zone. This fleet consisted of many John A. Warden type ships including the new John A. Warden (7903) captained by Carmen Ibanez. The invasion began over an Arachnid planet and went very poorly with Mobile Infantry taking heavy losses, as well as several Fleet ships being hit including the John A. Warden type ship the Ishizuka.

Two Special Branch John A. Warden type ships appeared at the battle flanking the John A. Warden and telling Captain Ibanez that she was relieved of command. Having been warned of danger and asked to go to Mars by Carl Jenkins psychically she disobey these ordered and drastically manovered the ship to fall beneath the Special Branch ships knowing that their weapons would fail to hit her ship due to design flaws.

She slingshotted the planet and traveled directly for Mars which was now invaded by Arachnids.

Upon reaching Mars the John A. Warden was able to get in contact with Lost Patrol an M.I. squad on the surface who had found and disabled a Q Bomb Sky Marshal Amy Snapp had intended to detonate. The ship transmitted feed of the actual events on the surface to the rest of the system unveiling that there were still forces on the planet fighting back. This prevented Amy Snapp having anyway to destroy the planet and ended her political career.
