Chariot Bugs or Phaetons are a low ranking small supportive Bug type. They are not designed for combat, and therefore are weak and slow and lack offensive or even defensive capability. They resemble a mix of giant bug and woodlice. Chariot Bugs are often used to carry the Brain Bugs around and serve as their means of transportation when needed, hence their name. Brain Bugs lie on top of them to be moved about. They are also sometimes used as scouts and to clear mine fields.
History[]
Chariot Bugs were with the Brain Bug when it entered Whiskey Outpost and ate the brains of humans. At least one Chariot was killed and later found by Johnny Rico of the Roughnecks, when he spotted the carcass of one under some rubble.
During the Invasion of Planet P chariot bugs escorted the Brain Bug to a cavern where Zander Barcalow and Carmen Ibanez were captured. The Chariots were sent in ahead of the Brain, briefly seeming to inspect Barcalow and Ibanez for a few moments before the Brain entered the chamber. When Carmen was rescued and the Brain fled, these chariots fled with it. They were not seen again when the Brain was captured and were either killed or fled.
During the Battle of Kwalasha Chariot bugs were present, attacking humans on rare occasions when threatened. However, the tactic was very ineffective.
