The 701st was a UCF Mobile Infantry division that serviced during the First Bug War. Its primary commander was General Jack Gordon Shepard, followed by Intel psychic Lieutenant Pavlov Dill and squad Sergeant Dede Rake.
History[]
During the First Bug War approximately five years after the Klendathu System Campaign, the 701st was deployed to invade an unknown Arachnid planet deep inside the Arachnid Quarantine Zone. The battle would have ended in disaster when the Arachnids deployed their new Bug, known as the Control Bug, against 701st survivors whom had retreated to Hotel Delta 1-8-5.
The Fortress Outpost was over run by the control Bugs, and General Shepard was infected. However, thanks to a couple of brave Mobile Infantry soldiers, Captain Dax, and Private Sahara the Federation was saved when they were able to kill the infected General and prevent the Control Bugs from escaping the planet. The Arachnids were going to use their new Bug against the Federation's High Command using the general. Sahara escaped on a landing boat, however, Captain Dax, knowing he would be hung upon his return home, opted to stay behind and fight off the Arachnids until killed.
